The Break (or Call) on Djembe
What is the break or call?
Getting great sound on your drum
Bass note (0:58)
Tone Note (0:27)
Slap note (2:36)
In this video Weedie demonstrates the slap note on djembe.
It is played edge of the drum head, with the thumb lightly held away from the fingers. Use a relaxed wrist, and very light contact.
Although the slap note is a sharper sound, it is important NOT to hit harder. The best sound is achieved through a light and relaxed motion.
